Who is Matthew Scully?

He is Sarah Palin's speech writer, as members of the media keep reminding us. Why don't they tell us the name of Joe Biden's speech writer? Barack Obama's?

Is the implication that, hey, she's not that smart? After all, she didn't write the speech. No politicians at this level write their own speeches, but only her speech writer is named.

No the implication is that she is reciting a speech written by a Bush speech writer, the same person who wrote the "Mission Accomplished Speech". How can she say that she will go to Washington and shake things up and take on the "Good Old Boys." when she sits in camp with the Bush administration? The answer is she can't.

The main point that so many animal-friendly sites mention the irony, is that he wrote "Dominion: The Power of Man, the Suffering of Animals, and the Call to Mercy" (a book I highly recommend), along with many other articles, including this one:

So it is not only ironic that someone who is against hunting would write a speech for a hunter, but that it was his speech that made her so popular, and the hunters and NRA members of the country can now feel affirmed and supported for their lifestyle choices -- thanks to him.

It isn't sexist. I'm not sure what it is, but for me, there is a certain sense that 1) he sold out on his own ethics, and 2) that the "zingers" that irritated the non-McCain followers were not her fault. In any case, I think her speech did much to help further divide the country.
